I gently knocked on the window and hoped that I wouldn’t frighten her too much.
She didn’t notice that I landed on the balcony, I guess the rain made to much of a noise. There was a woman sitting in the couch, she was watching TV. I came closer and saw that it was a large balcony outside the room that was lit, so I landed on the balcony. That was when I saw a light in one of the tallest buildings, I flew right towards it without thinking. I had to get somewhere indoors to try to dry my cape. It was in the middle of the night and all the skyscrapers were dark since everyone was sleeping. It didn’t take me long to discover that it wasn’t National City, but I didn’t recognize it. I saw a city in the distance and thought that it must be National City, so I went for it.
I tried to fly lower, and it sort of worked. I went down again, not so much because the cold bother me, because it didn’t, but I couldn’t fly with a cape made of ice and I didn’t have better sight from up there anyway. I tried to fly higher to get away from the rain, but it was freezing above the clouds, and the water started to form ice crystals on my cape. I had water in my boots and my hair must have looked like a complete mess. My cape got stuck on my back and didn’t fly after me like it used to. I told her that I would contact them if I needed any help. I said no, I was a adult Superhero for Rao's sake. Alex kept asking me over the coms if J'onn should come and pick me up. I tried to see through the rain, but all I could see was a large grey wall of water. I had to slow down just to be able to see anything at all. When I say rain, I don’t mean a light drizzle, I mean a real cloudburst. It was in the middle of the night and I was on my way home to National City after a good job in Star City, and somewhere on the way it started to rain. But every cloud has a silver lining, and so did my catastrophic sense of direction. It was one thing when I knew that I had a two feet thick wall in front of me, but this? Miles of water drops falling from the sky like Rao had lost the love of his life. The X-ray vision was probably the hardest thing to master. The only thing I truly had under control was the hearing, the glasses never stopped me from hearing things. The freeze breath? The heat vision? I had to learn them from scratch again. Winn said that it must be like cycling, but he has never tried to cycle after ten years of only walking. Before I jumped up to save Alex in her plane, I hadn’t flown in over a decade. The flying and the cape thing were something else.
Don’t hit too hard, don’t hit too soft, every enemy was different, and I had to learn with the first punch how much they could take.
